Ghouls, Ghouls, Ghouls Night Out!

FINALLY got to finish this piece tonight! I started it last week and it was driving me crazy not being able to work on it. My love affair with cel-vinyl paints is growing...man, I love this stuff! Working with it on big pieces is so much quicker then gouache-and like I've said previously, it lays solid and smooth. This measures 9"x12", something I definitely wouldn't be able to do with gouache for the amount of background color used. And to fix a mistake with this stuff is cake- making a fix with gouache, for-get-it! Might add more ghosties in the background in the future...I'm still mulling it over. Ok, back to work!!

Stephanie, I almost fell over when I saw this. It's incredible, it's prolly my favorite of your work so far.

I'm thinking of trying out cel vinyls myself. Curious, what color set did you start with?

Roque,

They are really a lot of fun to play around with! I didn't buy any specific color set, just went to the art store and bought primary colors-a big bottle of white and black and a few bright greens. I didn't want to commit to buying a whole set if I didn't like the paint-plus I'm really picky/obsessive with my colors and like to make my own. I actually mix a lot of gouache and water color into the cel-vinyl too, it seems to punch up the color quite a bit.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I had no idea you could mix gouache (my normal medium) and cel vinyl. That's cool! I wish we had a store here that carried the cel vinyl off the shelf so that I could try it out. I think I might have to buy it online at Cartoon Colour.

Glad I could help! Yep, I mean I'm not sure if you're actually "supposed to" mix them together, but it seems to work pretty well! As long as you don't add too much gouache to cel-vinyl, it doesn't seem to crack and works great so far.

Love it, the colors are perfect and I especially like the use of the bright green. I'm jealous I haven't touched paint in almost two months--superheroes are ruining me!
